Best Friends(kind of long)

We had been friends since we were young, and I never forgot that day that I met him. We where 5 and we were both looking for frogs. I was young but I liked him. Almost everyday we went to look for frogs. Until one day he didn't come. I went two days later he didn't come that day either.
Years pass, and it was the first day of High School, we do roll call and I hear a name that sounds so familiar, then I here that person calling out, "here". He is right behind me, I turn around, and there is that boy from when we are young. He sees me too and his eyes get wide and we just stare and smile at each other for hours it seems.
A few weeks later we go out, and weeks together turns into months, and months turns into years until our High School graduation. I had made it into the college I have wanted to go to since I was young. So has he. The problem: they were on different sides of the world. We wouldn't be able to be with each other.
I thought about it for so long during that summer. When it was time to start college I had to end it with him. I thought we were going to be together forever. I loved him.
I went through college and met someone, but it wasn't the same. We dated for a while but then he could tell I wasn't very interested in him so he broke it off.
Six years later I graduated from college with a masters degree, moved back home and got a job working with autistic children.
One day, I took a child to the park to see how he reacted to the sand, as he was playing a little girl with big blue eyes and brown hair, I had thought I had seen a child that looked like her before, I look up to see is anyone was with her, there was.
I knew why I thought she looked like someone I knew, because that someone I knew since I was five, was best friends with, and had not stopped loving was standing right there watching her. He met my gaze and we just stared and smiled at each other for hours it seems like. He walks over to me and introduces the little girl as his daughter and his wife who was carrying a baby boy in her arms was sitting on the bench not far away. I knew then that he didn't feel the same way I always had about him.
We talked for a while and then said our goodbyes, they said they'd be moving away tomorrow and was just taking a brake from packing. I gave him a hug and said goodbye. But then as I was pulling away from that hug he whispered, "I have always loved you".
